Frequently Asked Questions

"What areas do you cover?"

Brownlie Bagpiping is based in Lanark, Scotland, and proudly serves events across the United Kingdom. We regularly travel throughout Glasgow and Edinburgh and are happy to accommodate bookings further afield where possible.

If you're unsure whether your location is covered, please don't hesitate to get in touch. We're happy to discuss travel options with you.

"What are your prices?"

Every event is different, and so is every performance. At Brownlie Bagpiping, pricing is flexible and based on the type of event, location, and any special requests. As a general guide, our prices range from £150 to £350, with travel and accommodation costs potentially applicable, depending on the distance.

Whether it’s a short, heartfelt moment or a full day of celebration, we'll work with you to create something that fits your day and your budget.

"Do you still play in poor weather?"

Yes. We do still play in poor weather, as long as it’s safe to do so. The pipes are sturdy, but like any instrument, they require some care in heavy rain or strong winds. If the weather’s looking rough, we’ll always have a backup plan in place, whether that’s moving under cover or adjusting the setup slightly.

Our goal is to ensure the performance takes place, rain or shine. If you’ve got specific concerns about your venue or setup, just let us know, and we’ll work it out together.

"Do you provide a drummer?"

Yes. We can provide a drummer if you'd like to add that extra power and presence to your event. Whether it’s a traditional pipe band-style snare drummer or something a bit more tailored, we work with experienced players who match our standard of professionalism and performance.

If you're interested in adding a drummer to your booking, just let us know when you get in touch, and we’ll build a package that suits your needs.

"Can you learn a specific tune?"

Absolutely! We’re always happy to learn a specific tune for your event. Whether it’s a classic, a family favourite, or something a bit unexpected, we’ll do our best to make it work on the pipes. Just give us a bit of notice so we can arrange and rehearse it properly.

If it’s something especially unique or outside the usual piping repertoire, we’ll let you know what’s possible.

What tunes can you play?

We play a wide range of traditional and modern tunes to suit all kinds of events. From timeless Scottish classics like “Highland Cathedral,” “Flower of Scotland,” and “Scotland the Brave,” to moving slow airs like “Amazing Grace” or "The Dark Island” has something for every moment: joyful, reflective, or powerful.

We also include upbeat marches, jigs, and reels for those livelier occasions, and we’re always open to requests. If you have a particular tune in mind, just let us know. Chances are, we can play it or learn it for you.
